It’s been a bit busy of late trying to get the latest edition of the ‘Friends of The Suffolk Regiment’ magazine ready for printing, but an email received yesterday brought some good news about my second book on the Malayan Emergency: the first proof will be with me shortly.
I’m very, very excited to see it all together in one volume and really can’t wait to receive the first proof with all the 250+ photographs in it. After years of interviewing Suffolk Regiment Malaya veterans and recording their experiences of National Service, to see a dedicated volume on ‘their’ campaign means quite a lot to me. They all said that they thought the Malayan Emergency was a forgotten ‘war’ even though the term ‘war was never used at the time. They all felt that what happened there had been overshadowed by the bigger United Nations war in Korea (that happened at the same time as their service in Malaya), but I hope that this will now no longer be the case and that there will be a dedicated volume of their service.
How it will look content wise, is the exciting part. I have a vision in my head as to what I think it’s layout will look like, but I’ll just have to wait and see...
