I’ve been busy of late getting the latest ‘Friends of the Suffolk Regiment’ magazine off to the printers and organising to have a special pin badge made for our members to celebrate our 15th birthday, so because of this, I have let the book rumble along in the background with my publishers, but news has come this week that it is edging closer and closer to reality.
The book is now in the hands of the editor and is being checked as I type, so hopefully in the next few weeks, I will get the first draft of the manuscript back to review.
The front cover too is nearing completion and I have already seen the first draft which looks (in my opinion) pretty amazing! It does need a few small tweaks, just sizing of the photos and a change of font really, but I am incredibly pleased with it. I hope to be able to reveal it to you all soon (but the above is a sneak preview of the back cover)
In these past few weeks, I have managed to make contact with the families of a couple of Second Suffolk veterans and have been most fortunate to obtain their permission to use photographs of their relatives in the book. This will now create a fair balance of pictures in the book between those taken at the front, I.e. in the jungle, against those taken later when the Battalion returned to Lahore.
The maps still need to be started, but that’s a job for another day!
