What’s Next?

So, whilst the Burma book is ‘bubbling’ away, it’s time to focus attention on another volume in my Suffolk history ‘cannon’.

The Burma book will be something of a ‘slow burn’ and I know that it will only appeal to a limited number of people, so I am not expecting it to fly off the shelves in any mad rush!

I have covered the 1st and 2nd Battalion’s in my previous books so perhaps it is now logical to move on numerically down the line to record the war service of the 4th and 5th (Territorial) Battalions who ended up being taken prisoner at Singapore.

That would certainly make sense, but I think not just yet. For one reason, it’s personal a personal story - as my grandfather served with the 4th Battalion and for another, it will take some time. There has been much written about these Battalion’s and their Japanese captivity and very little about their fighting at Singapore which I do feel needs to be readdressed, but that will take some research and so their history will have to follow-on in a couple of years.

At present, my thoughts are drawn to writing up the history of another Suffolk unit that fought in Tunisia and Italy. This one was slightly unusual as they didn’t fight as conventional infantry like all their other Suffolk comrades. No doubt you can already guess which unit I’m talking of…..and the picture above is surely a massive hint!
